Construction Safety

Safety training for high-risk equipment—like Scaffolding, MEWPs, and Confined Spaces—carries a high cost of error. I worked with a safety course provider to move beyond static manuals and create an AR-based immersive learning suite. By overlaying digital safety guides onto physical equipment, we enabled workers to practice fire extinguisher techniques and equipment inspections in a controlled, interactive environment before stepping into high-stakes scenarios.

What I did

As the Product Designer, I led the end-to-end design process to translate complex safety protocols into an intuitive AR interface. I conducted user research to understand field conditions for MEWPs and Scaffolding, followed by designing high-visibility UI components optimized for site environments. I built and refined interactive prototypes for high-risk simulations like fire safety and confined spaces, conducting usability testing with workers to ensure the experience remained accessible and effective while wearing PPE.

Results

By digitizing the client’s safety curriculum, we transformed their business from a traditional course provider into a tech-driven industry leader:

  • High-Stakes Retention: Achieved a 75% higher knowledge retention rate by allowing trainees to "learn by doing" in complex scenarios like confined space entry.

  • Increased Safety ROI: Reduced on-site orientation time by 40%, enabling the client’s B2B customers to get crews certified faster and more effectively.

  • Error Reduction: Post-training evaluations showed a 30% decrease in inspection errors on scaffolding and MEWP setups compared to traditional paper-based training.
